                                                                                            BILLY LAMONT’S NEW BOOK OF POETRY – PERIPHERAL VIEW: SOUL SONGS FOR THE STROBE LIGHT GENERATION 2020-2025 – TO BE RELEASED FOR THE HOLIDAYS

 Billy Lamont is a NY based American poet, an experimental multimedia performance poet, recording artist, and spoken word artist, with a reformer spirit, and an international reach. He has been interviewed and featured on national television a number of times, and he has toured and performed multiple dates as part of Lollapalooza Festival for three different years.

Lamont’s new book of poems,  peripheral view: soul songs for the strobe light generation 2020-2025 is a powerful companion and successor to Lamont’s earlier above ground poetry collections: The Gallery Of Light, strobe light generation, and Words Ripped From A Soul Still Bleeding: Poems For The Future Edition, and to his most acclaimed albums and EPs : Into The 21st Century, billy lamont with the peculiar people, the gallery of light, and Beyond Babylon. 

Lamont said, “peripheral view: soul songs for the strobe light generation, was selected from the black leather journal I carried with me from 2020-2025, and is now woven into a long stream-of-consciousness poem and book. This book begins just before the COVID-19 pandemic and continues through today, amid global debates about digital identity systems.” Lamont writes from his own perspective and convictions about these developments, expressing concerns about future control, loss of freedom, and the fate of the “We The People,” citizens of the world.

This new work gathers poems, scribblings, witty proverbs, song lyrics, and prose that move with a creation-flow filled with life, hope, and love—searching for truth, letting down walls, and stepping forward in vulnerability and faith. Lamont writes about everyday survival, often perceiving life from the corner of his eye, saving impressions to process later. With an electric guitar in hand, his subconscious would sometimes surface in sudden, focused bursts—psalm-like hymns, integrity-filled punk songs, or playful alternative and classic-rock moments written quickly and instinctively.

From the beginnings of his career, the brilliant and inspirational Mike Peters of The Alarm and Allen Ginsberg showed love and support for Lamont’s work by collaborating on the title track of his first album Into The 21st Century, that was a benefit for Teen Challenge, and that contained an audio sample of an early Ginsberg recital of his legendary Beat Generation epic poem Howl. 

Lamont was awarded a Guinness World Record for his poetry performance contribution to a benefit song for Love Hope Strength Foundation and those fighting cancer, that was recorded by LHS Co-Founder Mike Peters of The Alarm in 2014, and was the ‘longest officially released song ever.’ This song titled The Scriptures was written as a seed of peace for Muslims, Christians and Jews in The Holy Land.

“Soulful art, spirituality and community, as opposed to divisiveness and alienation, is so important in these tumultuous times, that are also ripe with potential. I plan on using my voice to bring faith, love and peace to all people inclusively to the best of my ability, with all my strength, by God’s grace!,” Lamont concluded.

Like a holy outlaw, Lamont stands as an outsider—a critical thinker with a fertile imagination, a passionate soul with a vision of a very different JESUS than many have known. He is a sacred pop artist whose new book closes with the sense of new beginnings, new birth, and the frequency of light in holy vibrations, for the strobe light generation.

I was REALLY Feeling the recital of this poem, in this timing, at the WALT WHITMAN BIRTHPLACE One Week Ago On Sunday, September 22, 2024. As I was hearing the news that the war in The Holy Land appeared to be escalating today, I was alao scheduled to recite my poem I BELIEVE DREAM PEACE, written for Muslims, Christians & Jews in The Holy Land a few years back, and now appears in the newly release Bards Annual 2024 Poetry Anthology. The Holy Land and its children, woman, and men were heavy on my heart as I recited.

Thank You to the amazing poet, & my good friend JAY JII for thoughtfully videoing my recital. I Believe the video captured this raw moment sort of like capturing lightning striking in a bottle!

Perry, Cinematography By Steven Mark Glazzner. “This song was written about traveling with joy through some personal suffering as a single Father to my son Zion, as living in Babylon, NY, just prior to Hurricane Sandy. I had inspiration from the scripture ‘By the waters of Babylon I wept for Zion,’ from HOLY BIBLE on my heart and mind as writing this and the album Beyond Babylon. When Hurricane Sandy devastated my hometown of Babylon, NY it became more about traveling through that pain, much like a blues song or a psalm from HOLY BIBLE does, bringing strength to my hometown and community of people that suffered loss from Hurricane Sandy in NY and NJ. I asked Director Scott W. Perry to capture that visually and he came up with this videos concept of me journeying through one day of this devastation, visuallized amazingly by Perry and Glazzner in the days that followed Hurricane Sandy. This song video feels bigger than I, and I praise GOD for the comfort I feel within it, and above all the comfort it has brought to others.,” Billy Lamont said.
